Poetry Assignment 3

Due Monday, February 8

This assignment has two parts. The first part is a poem of between 100 and 150 words. The second part is a few sentences that interpret the poem. In other words, restate what the poem means. Type your poem and interpretation and hand it in during class on the 8th.

General guidelines:

  1. Make sure that your poem stands on its own. Do not rely on your interpretation (but still provide an interpretation in your assignment).
  2. Aim for images and single moments. Avoid concepts and stretches of time.
  3. Poems need to be real. Do not make up details or make up stories. Do not represent reality as better or worse than it actually is. Do not exaggerate.

In this poem each group will have a plan and a different poetry concept. Everyone in each group should write a new poem or revise a poem based on the specific instructions for your group. If you do not have specific instructions for revising your poem then reread your poem and make sure that it fulfills the general guidelines.
