A cross-cultural investigation into the relationship between language and culture: language as a human attribute; language structure, historical origins, diversification, and change; gender and cultural variations in language usage; comparative analysis and classification of world languages. Introduction to the techniques and the ethics of archaeological research. Use of field survey skills in locating different types of archaeological sites. Methods of field excavation. Selection of archaeological sites, and the techniques of mapping, excavation, and preparation of artifacts. Written analysis of such sites in archaeological field reports.
