About Me

"For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
-George Eliot, Middlemarch

I am a full-time instructor in English at De Anza College. I love working with De Anza students and I'm thrilled to be a part of the De Anza community.

My pedagogical goal is to help students build strong reading, writing, and thinking skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom. In my writing classes,

  • the work is collaborative - students work with me and with each other.
  • we focus on topics such as magic, education, racism, journalism, and science.
  • I encourage students to understand reading and writing in relation to communities outside of the classroom.

If this sounds like fun, then sign up for an EWRT class with me!

I also teach English literature. In my ELIT classes, the goal is for students to encounter new texts and to learn how to read analytically--without ever losing sight of the pleasure that can be found in literature. In Spring 2019, I am teaching ELIT 46C (British Writers--Victorian and Modern). In Winter 2020, my ELIT 10 (Intro to Fiction) will focus on detective fiction.

Students who are enrolled in my classes can access the syllabus through the Canvas page. Anyone else who is interested in my syllabi should send me an email.
