Instructional Equipment Divisions’ Request Review – (continued discussion)

The committee started the discussion by reviewing deans’ responses to IPBT on the outstanding questions from the last few meetings.

The members expressed the need for developing a reference sheet to assist deans and program review writers with their instructional equipment and lottery requests.

IPBT had a lengthy discussion about the Shuttle Kiln Model #2851 TLC - $34,111.00 request from Creative Arts. Espinosa-Pieb gave a summary of the Arts/Ceramic program’s history and remarked that the ceramics program went through the Viability committee and was eliminated. Then a new instructor grew the program from the ground using the old Kiln. Now a new Kiln is being requested to keep the program going. The committee made a decision not to fund Kiln purchase for 2016-2017 year. However, if the old Kiln requires repairs the contingency fund would cover the expense. 7 of 10 IPBT members voted to run the ceramics program through the viability process again. If the viability committee approves the program the dean can re-submit the request for the Kiln in 2017-2018 fiscal year using Instructional Equipment fund.

Ranck presented the, Instructional Equipment for 2016-2017, excel spreadsheet with the totals for each division. Because of the overall dollar amount of requests for Instructional Equipment is still more than the money available, the members continued discussing prioritization of the requests.

Espinosa-Pieb, Ranck & Nguyen will update the spreadsheet and bring it back to next week’s IPBT for approval.
