Review of Reflection Questions draft document

Mary Pape, Karen Chow, and Mallory Newell created the draft of these Reflection Questions. Two other versions of the document representing input to the original draft from Mayra Cruz and Alicia Cortez were also presented and discussed. The questions are intended to engage all employees from a department/program/area to form best practices to foster equity mindedness.

Several present expressed concern that the document includes questions for Student Services and Administrative Units. Mary assured that adoption of any part of the Reflection Questions would be entirely their choice. For the last three years a modified version of the Instructional Program Review document was adopted by each Student Services and Administrative Units to facilitate their program reviews. This seemed to foster conversations across areas on campus. That same communication across all campus employees is hoped for here.

Moaty Fayek expressed concern that responses would be less authentic if this document was intended as a tool to make budgetary decisions.  Mary stated this was not the primary focus of its creation. The questions were intended to assist departments/programs to create actionable plans to become more equity minded and to stimulate ideas for more holistic and authentic SLO assessment work.

The intent is for responses to the questions to be due on April 26, 2021 which is the Monday after Convocation (April 23, 2021). Convocation will incorporate the Reflection Questions into its activities. This document would be shared with Student Services and Administrative Units once the IPBT has determined the appropriateness of the questions.

Christina clarified that these are questions that every department should respond to this year. Questions were drafted not to be too onerous for those responding.
