IPBT Notes - June 18, 2019

Approval of Notes – June 4, 2019 notes were approved with the following:

  • Add Lisa Markus and Dana Kennedy to the guest list.
  • Move Vins Chacko, ACE representative to the guest list

Ranck reported that Viability committee met and had presentations from music and paralegal programs showing their plan of action for improvement.

Lorrie reminded to the committee that on June 5, 2018 IPBT approved the following:

  • Music – elimination of AA and ADT. Phase out degree/certificate programs
  • Paralegal – phasing out and elimination of the program

Viability Recommendation – Paralegal

Continuance through Winter 2020 based on the presented plan of action and additional measures below:

  • Set and achieve consistent enrollment in all PARA courses (especially required courses) at 80% fill rate or above
  • Reduce/Streamline number of sections offered based on enrollment history
  • Explore opportunities to fund and sustain a faculty director
  • Identify and reallocate FTEF from other areas to offer PARA courses

Viability Recommendation – Music

Continuance through Winter 2020 based on the presented plan of action and additional measures below:

  • Implement plan of action for increased recruiting and outreach efforts particularly targeting majors
  • Clarify and reconcile transfer requirements and curriculum amendments given the plan to offer 3ABC and 4ABC in alternating years
  • Explore and determine potential certificate options
  • Set and achieve consistent enrollment in major courses (especially MUSIC 3 and 4 and the ensembles) at 80% fill rate or above

Viability will convene in Winter 2020 in weeks 3 or 4 to review progress.

IPBT mutually agreed and voted: MUSI and PARA to continue through winter and to be reviewed again, look at the enrollment for spring and fall schedule. Lorrie will notify the programs and let them know how to proceed.

Program Review - Summary of Deans input to clarification and questions

Pape thanked the deans for the informative programs’ presentations.

Ranck recapped that the purpose of the sessions with the deans was as an exercise to clarify, understand, ask questions to get more information and the context of the programs as a whole.

Thoughts on leading agenda items for Fall 2019:

Fall 2019 IPBT focus: resource allocation, discussion for programs review process, strong workforce/Perkins allocation, faculty hiring, the Handbook

Winter 2020 IPBT focus: bring three groups back: Football, MUSI, PARA programs and preparation for the Program Reviews.

New faculty members: Cheryl Balm (f/t), Marissa Smith (p/t),

New classified members: Dana Kennedy, Lorna Maynard will continue.
