Important Update: Now Providing Both Instruction and Services Remotely

March 15, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

I know you have been monitoring updates on the coronavirus as closely as we on senior staff have. This includes today’s recommendation from the governor that those with health conditions – and those over 65 – stay at home, among much other news in this quickly evolving situation.

  • At this point, and with the agreement of the Faculty Association, all remaining instruction – including labs, studio arts and physical activity – will move to remote options, beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 16.
  • In addition – also beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 16 – services to De Anza College students will be provided remotely, and not on campus. Most offices and campus facilities will be closed.
  • Meetings among staff and administrators should generally be conducted via phone and using online tools. For assistance with Zoom, for example, see the Online Education Center’s Faculty Resource Hub: deanza.edu/online-ed/faculty/remoteinstruction.

Managers will be in touch with our classified professionals – and, I know, will be seeking their valuable input – on how to work together, remotely, to continue to serve our students the best we possibly can. These are challenging circumstances for both our students and for us. It is not ideal, but I know we will do everything we can, and do it well.

We have been planning for these possibilities for some time now, and will continue to work out many details. To move all instruction to remote options and to provide services remotely is the best decision at this point for our students, faculty and staff. I will be back in touch, and in the meantime, please continue to visit deanza.edu/healthservices/coronavirus for updates.

My very best to each of you, and to your family.

Kindly,
Christina
