Important: Register and Vote

Oct. 17, 2012 — Message from Your Presidents

Dear Student,

It is vital that you make your voice heard in the Nov. 6 election. The deadline to register to vote is this Monday, Oct. 22. If you're eligible to vote and haven't yet registered, you can:

Register online. This new feature on the California Secretary of State's webpage has already registered almost half a million new voters.

Go to the Main Quad tomorrow - Thursday, Oct. 18 - between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and register through My Vote, Our Future. See MVOF's website or Facebook page for lots of good info, including videos in eight languages.

Complete a voter registration form available at the public library, post office, Department of Motor Vehicles or your county Registrar of Voters. The form must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the registrar's office by the Oct. 22 deadline. (If you're in Santa Clara County, the address to drop off the form is 1555 Berger Dr. in San Jose.)

Be sure to get informed about the candidates and issues, including Proposition 30, which directly affects college students. A great source of nonpartisan information is Smart Voter. Additional resources are available on De Anza's voter information webpage. You'll also find a list of campus events where you can learn more about election issues. Several of the biggest events are being held next week, including a forum from 1:30-3 p.m. on Monday in the Campus Center on "The Stakes in this Election for De Anza Students."

Gov. Jerry Brown has asked that we send to you his own message on the importance of registering and voting. It's available here.

One final note: If you live in Santa Clara County and vote by mail, you can drop off your ballot here at the college. An official ballot drop-box is secured to the flagpole on the Main Quad.

Voting is central to our democracy. Thanks for exercising your right to vote on Nov. 6.

Sincerely,
Pablo Zamorano
President, De Anza Associated Student Body

Brian Murphy
President, De Anza College
