Judy Cuff-Alvarado - Biology 10

Biology 10

  • Didn't take High School Biology?
  • Took a Bio class years and years ago and can't remember much?
  • Don't want to major in biology but you need a GE class to get your AA degree?
  • A little nervous to take a science class and want something that is introductory?

Well, if you've answered yes to any of these questions, then you should consider signing up for my Bio 10 class. In class we have three rules:

  1. Learn.
  2. Help others learn.
  3. Have fun.
This 12-week course covers a broad range of topics in biology:
  • The organization of life
  • Parts of the cell
  • Cancer
  • Stem cell research
  • Global warming
  • Species extinction and biodiversity
  • Genetic diseases and more.

You won't be an expert at the end of this course, but you might just decide that you'd like to become one!

Required Texts:
  • Essentials of the Living World by George  Johnson, McGraw Hill Publisher, 4th edition

  • Lecture notes and lab manual available in bookstore.  Look under BIO10 and Instructor's name "Cuff-Alvarado"

Would you like to take this class as an honors cohort?

This is a fantastic option for students who want to exceed course expectations and have BIO10H on their transcript.

  • If you are in the Honors Program, you are welcome to participate in the cohort.
  • If you are not in the Honors Program but are eligible for the program, you are also welcome to participate as long as you have not taken an Honors class from De Anza previously.

Eligibility requirements can be found at www.deanza.edu/honors or you may contact Lydia Hearn at dahonors@deanza.edu.

The cohort entails additional work in order to earn an Honors designation for this class on your transcript. You must commit to participating in the Honors cohort by the fourth week of the quarter by submitting a signed cohort contract to the Honors Program office. You may download a contract form from the Honors Web site. Once you commit to the Honors portion, you will be expected to complete the extra work. Failure to complete the Honors work will result in a lowering of your Honors course grade.
