    Campus Center Advisory Board

    DRAFT Notes

    May 1, 2023

Review/Approve notes from the January 30, 2023, meeting

    The notes were approved.

Fireside Room Update - Acoustical Panel Selection

The interior of the Fireside Room will be repainted, and new acoustic tiles will be installed. Pictures were shared of geometrical sample shapes and colors for the new acoustical tiles. The hexagon shapes were the most popular within this group.  It was noted there was only one student in this meeting. Lockwood asked the members from College Life to take back the sample pictures back to DASG for student input. Lockwood will work with College Life and will provide information for the department to share and poll with the students. The sizes range from 26” to 4’.

Campus Center Painting and Signage Update

The lower level of the Campus Center has been reviewed in person with the District Facilities Department. The painting project will be postponed until the summer of 2024 due to additional scope needed for this project. The project will be expanded to include signage and needs an assessment of the fire extinguisher boxes. Pictures were shared of the existing, outdated signage and fire extinguisher boxes. The benches in the space will also be reviewed.

    Measure G Bond Projects Update

Project 201 – Upgrade Fire Alarms and Suppression Systems

The District Project Management team finished the fire alarm assessments campus wide. The team is currently working with a consultant to separate the project into smaller phases. This is done so the system can continue to run while other areas are being worked on.

Project 202 – New Services for Students Building

The New Services for Students Building project is part of the Mega Project. The President’s Office and College Council requested a task force for the Mega Project. Names for the membership have been collected and the President’s Office is putting together the first meeting to discuss the expectations of the task force.

Project 204 – Converting Existing Facility to Beach Volleyball

The existing facility was a softball facility. The project is almost ready to go to Division of the State Architect (DSA) for review and approval. The project is currently in construction documents. Once the documents are approved the project will go out to bid. Anticipated submittal is about a six-week lead time. Anticipated groundbreaking is within the 2023 calendar year.

Project 212 – Modernizing Building Interiors and Exteriors

The project has a sub-project – Project 213 – Renovating Restrooms in S2, S6 and L5. The Campus Facilities Committee created a task force. The group will meet on May 5, May 19, and June 2 to discuss the possibility of adding all gender/gender neutral restrooms in buildings S2, S6 and L5.

Project 509 – De Anza Event Center

This project is part of the Mega Project and is with the task force and the President’s Office.

It was noted the ETS department is spending Measure G dollars on computer refresh across all campuses. ETS is making a diligent effort in this area to support all of us.

    Information Sharing/Quick News

A question was asked about a panic button in Dining Services installed several years ago. The button is in the Food Services Director’s office. The intended purpose of the button was to lock down all the doors in the campus center in case of an emergency. This item should be reviewed with the District Police Department as part of a larger conversation. Training is needed on how the system works and the responsibility for shutting down the building should be coordinated with the District Police. College Operations has been reviewing campus wide Bay Alarm billings and what those account billings include. Mahato will take this item back and inquire about it.

College Life shared the floor plan on the district website for the lower level is an old floor plan and is more than ten years old.  In 2021, College Operations had some of the floor plans on campus updated. The Facilities webpage has old plans from 2011. Mahato has been working on a campus level plan for the door numbers and updating them for access and keys requests.

It was noted there is now only student on this committee. No additional meetings are planned for the rest of the academic year. There will be a call for new members in the Fall.

Dining Services shared there were many year-end celebrations that were booked last minute. A reminder that events should be communicated as early as possible for booking and ordering food the Campus Center.

Lockwood shared the new chairs for the conference rooms and the meeting rooms will deliver July 10 and 11.

The next Campus Center Advisory meeting will take place in the Fall 2023 quarter unless there is a need to meet earlier.
