    Welcome/Introductions/Roll Call

    Classified senate met on zoom, Tuesday, October 17. President, Adriana Garcia called the meeting to order at 2:09 PM.

    Approval of Agenda and Previous Meeting

    The September 26 and October 3 minutes and current agenda were approved by consensus vote.


    Classified Senate Business

    Budget

    Because senate currently as no treasurer, Adriana requested access to the budgets so senate can use those funds.  

    Debee explained the differences between the public Brown Act under which the academic senate operates and how classified senate and other more internal committees are not held to as many restrictions.

    Classified Survey Participation

    Lisa Ly reported 46 people filled out the survey showing classified participation in shared governance for the past year. Adriana would like for 20 percent, a total of fifty people to fill it out, so the survey will remain open until October 24.

    4CS Statewide CLI Prof Dev

    Adriana outlined some new state-wide professional development opportunities from the Classified Senate Institute. She reminded attendees that the office of professional development has funding assistance for paying to attend conferences.

    Payroll Deductions

    Debee explained payroll deductions that all employees can contribute to increase the independent budget for classified senate.
    Santa Clara County in conjunction with Santa Clara Valley Medical center plans to build a health clinic on De Anza property and Adriana met along with Academic Senate and the unions to learn about it. In her report, she explained that services would bee free to uninsured and undocumented people and staff, students and faculty can take advantage of the service as well. Attendees had many questions and comments. More information will likely follow in subsequent months. She emphasized however that it was a partnership between the county and the medical facility and its goal was to support those who need the care most.

    She also listed the requirements for the RAPP secretary position.

    A consensus vote approved Dennis to represent senate on the dining services RFP committee and Sushini representing senate on guided pathways.

    Debee regretfully declined serving on the campus facilities committee, though she had previously volunteered, because it meets the same time as classified senate. Two representatives are now needed. A representative is also needed for RAPP.


    Annnoucemens, Calendar, Next Steps

    Leadership Reports

    Adriana shared a collaborative document where members fill in their current shared governance commitments. It lists affinity groups, unions and 31 committees. She requests members fill in their roles.

    Debee is creating a survey to email to committee chairs who request classified representation. This survey will ask for details such as meeting times and the level of expected commitment. Knowing each committee's goals will better recruit classified who wish to serve.

    Bylaws Revision

    Adriana also reminded attendees to review and provide feedback on the draft bylaws.

    ISER Review

    A final draft of the ISER (institutional self-evaluation report) for the upcoming accreditation is available and Debee explained how to review and provide feedback. Feedback will be accepted until November 3, however Debee would like senate to vote on it next week, October 24, so she can report that senate has approved it.

    Classified Senate Calendar and Senate Signal

    Juan shared the calendar for classified senate and requested additions or corrections. Together with Adriana, he also explained the "Senate Signal" the newsletter which is sent to all staff each Friday and includes requests for committee representation, calendar, minutes, upcoming agenda, links to shared documents and surveys plus any other announcements.

    Next Steps

    Adriana introduced the new DASG representative to classified senate. Mary and Claudia she also announced, are planning a welcome activity as soon as she has access to the senate's funds.
