One Last Message in 2022 Regarding Masking, Vaccinations and the Spirit of Foothill-De Anza

Dear Colleagues,

It is hard to believe that fall quarter is almost over. Before we end the year, I want to thank each of you for your work to help our students reach their goals and to further the college and district missions. We have a lot to celebrate this year!

I also want to remind everyone that students and employees who come to campus or other district facilities in person are required to provide proof of vaccination and a booster for COVID-19. Medical and religious exemption information for employees is available through the Office of Human Resources. Employee proof of vaccination for in-person participation can be uploaded using the PyraMED system following directions on the Office of Human Resources COVID-19 webpage. Information for students is available on the campus COVID-19 pages listed below.

Indoor masking is optional; however, face masks may be required in some offices or by individual instructors in their classrooms. The Santa Clara Public Health Department and the California Department of Public Health still strongly recommend that the public continue to wear masks in all indoor public spaces.

At the start of winter quarter, we plan to send out a survey to solicit your thoughts about removing the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for students and/or employees. It appears that most districts in the state and most organizations in the country are moving in that direction, but we want to be sure to gather your feedback before considering any changes.

I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the resilience and grit that you have demonstrated for nearly three years.  We have experienced fatigue, anxiety, and loss.  But amid these painful passages, we have experienced the joy that comes from graduation celebrations, alumni stories of success in many forms, and increased appreciation and support from donors, employers, and community members.  The indomitable spirit of Foothill-De Anza is thanks to the persistent dedication of our student leaders, classified professionals, faculty, administrators, and trustees.  May 2023 be the year of less talk of COVID and much more action on behalf of student success!

Best wishes for a healthy, happy holiday season,
Judy
