Important: You've Been Placed on Dismissal Status

Dear Student,

Please read this message carefully: Our records show your cumulative Grade Point Average at De Anza College has been below 2.0 for at least five quarters. As a result, you have been placed on dismissal status for winter quarter 2024. This means you have been dropped from any classes for which you may have registered this quarter.

You can still continue your college education at De Anza – and we want you to succeed. There are support programs and other assistance available to you. For now, you must sit out this quarter while you develop a plan for getting back on track. Specifically, you must meet with an academic counselor and submit a petition for reinstatement.

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Schedule a meeting with an academic counselor
  • Submit the petition for reinstatement to the Appeal Review Committee (ARC)
    • Log in to MyPortal, open the Apps page and click on the tile for Adobe Sign Student Forms.
    • Open the form called De Anza Petition to the ARC for Admission After Dismissal.
    • Fill out the form and be sure to include the name of the counselor you met with.
    • Click to e-sign the form and submit it to the ARC.
    • Please allow up to two weeks for the ARC to review your petition and notify you of the outcome.

Since you won’t be taking classes this quarter, you also must submit a new application for admission before you return, by following the steps at deanza.edu/apply-and-register.

Please note: Your academic status could affect your eligibility for certain types of financial aid or veterans' benefits. You may contact the Financial Aid and Veteran Services offices for more information about this.

We want you to reach your goals at De Anza. You can a find a list of helpful resources on our Academic Awareness website, as well as tips for improving your academic performance. You’ll find more information about support programs at deanza.edu/services. Please don’t hesitate to seek assistance.

Best wishes,
