Reassessment & Retest Policies

Math Guided-Self Placement (GSP) Assessment

Students may retake the Math Guided Self-Placement (GSP) one time within six months of earning their first result.

However, students are ineligible to retake the Math GSP if they have earned a D, F, NP or I grade in the Math course sequence at De Anza.

  • Students may enroll in the course placement earned from the first or final assessment.

  • Results do not expire. 

English Guided-Self Placement (GSP) Assessment

Students may only take the English Guided-Self Placement (GSP) one time.

  • Results do not expire.

ESL Assessment

Students can take the ESL retest within six months of earning the first result.

However, students are ineligible to retest if they have earned a D, F, NP or I grade in the ESL course sequence at De Anza.

  • Students may enroll in the course placement earned from the first or final assessment.

  • Results do not expire.

  • Students may choose to retest within two years from the last recorded placement test result date if you have not earned a D, F, NP or I grade in the ESL course sequence at De Anza.

Biology 40A Exam

After taking the first exam, students cannot attempt the Biology 40A exam if they have enrolled in or have earned a W, D, F or I grade in Chemistry or Biology at De Anza.

  • Results do not expire.

  • Students who take a Biology 40A exam and do not enroll in Chemistry 30A, 25 or 1A at De Anza or Foothill are eligible for one retest after six months.

Chemistry 1A/Biology 6A Exam

After taking the first exam, students cannot attempt the Chemistry 1A/Biology 6A exam if they have enrolled in or have earned a W, D, F or I grade in Chemistry or Biology at De Anza.

  • Results do not expire.

  • Students who take a Chemistry 1A/Biology 6A exam and do not enroll in Chemistry 30A, 25 or 1A or Biology 6A at De Anza or Foothill are eligible for one retest after six  months.

Once you see your results posted on MyPortal, you can register for your classes!

Math Results

Guided Self-Placement Assessment: 2-3 business days

High School Transcript Assessment: Up to 5 business days

English Results

Guided Self-Placement Assessment: 2-3 business days

High School Transcript Assessment: Up to 5 business days

ESL Results

Placement Test: 2-3 weeks

Why the delay? All ESL essays are graded by two English instructors. This can take 2 to 3 weeks.

Chemistry1A/Biology 6A Results

Exam: 2-3 business days

Biology 40A Results

Exam: 2-3 business days

Step 1: Log in to MyPortal

Step 2: Click on the Student Registration Tile

Step 3: Under for "My Records" click on link "See My Placement Test Results"

Step 4: Look for your placement tests results. The courses listed are the courses that you are eligible to enroll in.

Can't see your results? Email us with request to obtain your placement results. Be sure to tell us your full name and student id number.

Note: Per FERPA Guidelines, we cannot release student academic record information over the phone.

Understanding Science Exam Results

These exams, if passed, allow you to enroll directly into the respective science courses:

If you did not earn a passing score, you should enroll in the respective course's prerequisite course:

  • Biology 40A prerequisite course: Chemistry 25, 30A, 1A
  • Chemistry 1A prerequisite course: Chemistry 25 or 30A (and Math 114 or equivalent)
  • Biology 6A prerequisite course: Chemistry 25 or 1A

Challenging Results

If you believe that your course placement(s) or exam result don't accurately reflect your skill level, you can challenge the course placement/result by completing a challenge form.
