Here's a list of upcoming Bay area guitar events. Be sure to confirm dates and ticket information for all performances, as this list is aggregated from other sources. De Anza Guitar Students: Open mics are a great way to hear performers of all levels, but are not eligible as Concert Reports (though extra credit can be earned by attending)

Dr. Costa is one of the finest guitarists of his generation, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in guitar performance at Brazil’s leading University – The University of São Paulo, under Dr. Edelton Gloeden and also studied with Paulo Porto Alegre and Everton Gloeden at the Escola Municipal de Música (EMM). Subsequently, Costa was awarded a cultural visit to the USA under the sponsorship of the São Paulo United States Consulate General. This trip resulted in a successful audition at the University of Arizona and a full scholarship to pursue both Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Guitar Performance. He was a Teaching Assistant (GTA) to the School of Music at the U of A from 2006 to 2012.

Costa has been invited to perform as a guest artist in major cities such as New York, Dallas, Portland, Houston, Boston, Austin, St. Joseph, São Paulo, Curitiba, and Brasília among others.

JASON VIEAUX – guitar JULIAN LABRO – bandoneon Friday, October 20, 2017 7:30 pm Herbst Theatre $35/$45/$55 * Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux, “among the elite of today’s classical guitarists” (Gramophone), is the guitarist that goes beyond the classical. NPR describes Vieaux as, “perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation.” Jason will be joined by Julian Labro, one of the leading figures of his generation on both the accordion and the bandoneon.

  • Everyone is welcome! Audience and performers of all levels: beginner to professional: all are warmly received and encouraged.

  • Finger picking nylon string styles (leave the Les Paul at home). Soloists and ensembles of any combination.

  • 10 minutes maximum per performer, coordinated by a different guest host each month.

  • Tropical juice and coffee provided by the SBGS. Fruit, cake and cookies are welcome: please bring enough to display and share.

Open Mics are wonderful events to attend, but are not candidates for concert reports. extra credit available.

Nicholas Goluses is Professor of Guitar, founder, and director of the guitar programs at the Eastman School of Music, where he is Co-Chair of the String Department and recipient of the Eisenhart Award for Excellence in Teaching. Nicholas Goluses’s concert tours as a soloist, with orchestra, and as a chamber musician have taken him across North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and the Far East to critical acclaim.


His many New York recitals have taken place in Merkin Hall, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Kaufmann Auditorium at the 92nd Street Y. Goluses has been a featured performer at major festivals throughout the world and has performed as concerto soloist with the Savannah Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Eastman Virtuosi, Heidelberg Symphony, and the Macon Symphony among others.
