Diwali, the festival of lights, symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance" and is one of the most popular festivals of India. Diwali marks different historical events and stories for Indians from different languages and regions. Many Hindus associate the festival with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Diwali is celebrated with family and friends with lighting earthen lamps (Diya), prayers (Puja), rituals, Rangoli decorations, fireworks and sweets.
