About the Department

We live in the age of the image, in a world of large and small screens. The Film/TV Department provides students with the critical skills to analyze media and the practical skills to create compelling content for spectators and screens of all sizes.

Our vision is to nurture yours.

Student Film and Video Show

Please join us at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 18 to view some of the best work that our students produced during the 2020-2021 academic year – including screenplays and narrative, nonfiction, experimental and animated shorts.

New Degree!

We're excited about our newest degree offering – the Associate in Science Degree for Transfer in Film, Television and Electronic Media – based on a comprehensive program covering the artistic concepts and technological skills needed to create content in the cinematic arts.

Integrating theory and practice, the Film/TV program at De Anza includes a comprehensive curriculum in Media Studies, Screenwriting, Film and Television Production, and Animation. We prepare you to transfer to a four-year university or to enter the workforce.

With state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, the F/TV Department supplies the tools to enable creativity and hands-on experience. Our students have won two national and three regional Student Academy Awards—more than any other community college in the 45-year history of the annual competition dominated by four-year and graduate film programs.

Let our experienced, dedicated faculty enlighten, engage and inspire you to become tomorrow’s media-literate scholars and media-making artists.
