Our Values

The division seeks to encourage students’ intellectual curiosity, personal growth and healthy life habits by promoting self-awareness, self-determination and self-reliance, and to assist them in successfully navigating the educational landscape.

The Division of Student Development will:

  • Promote the academic success, retention, graduation and transfer of De Anza students.
  • Demonstrate a spirit of collaboration and teamwork among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with instructional divisions and campus learning resources to enhance student learning and promote academic excellence.
  • Strengthen collaborative relationships with other student service areas that promote the retention and success of students.
  • Foster relationships with the local community to share resources and encourage students’ commitment to civic engagement and community development.
  • Address the student services and learning needs of a diverse student population via high-impact, equitable practices.
  • Offer educational programming and co-curricular activities to facilitate students’ college readiness, leadership abilities, conflict resolution skills, cultural competence and academic success.
  • Provide avenues for students to become engaged and build connections to the campus community.
  • Provide a safe, equitable and non-threatening environment where students know that confidentiality will be maintained.
  • Educate De Anza students on a variety of health and lifestyle issues by various means and modalities.
