President Brian Murphy has announced the selection of Rob Mieso as vice president of Student Services, following a national search.

“He is a person of deep commitment and extraordinary competence,” Murphy said of Mieso, who had been serving as interim vice president since February. “He is a colleague for whom service to students is at his very core.”

Rob MiesoMieso began working at De Anza more than 23 years ago as an adviser in the Occupational Training Institute. He has held a series of progressively responsible positions, including coordinator and then director of Outreach and Relations with Schools. Mieso was interim director of Financial Aid and Scholarships in 2012 and 2013.

As associate vice president of Student Services, Mieso oversaw the Office of Outreach, Middle College and College Now, as well as Admissions and Records, which includes Assessment and Veteran Services. He was also responsible for De Anza's International Student Programs (ISP); the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP); OTI and CalWORKS; and the Food Pantry.

During his time as associate vice president, Mieso oversaw the development of the college's newest Learning Community, the Men of Color Community. He also led implementation of the De Anza College Promise and co-leads planning, implementation and reporting for the integrated SSSP/Student Equity/Basic Skills Initiative.

As vice president, Mieso's responsibilities will include Admissions and Records, including Assessment and Veteran Services; Counseling and Advising; Disability Support Programs and Services; Financial Aid and Scholarships; the Office of Outreach and Relations with Schools; and Student Development and EOPS.

Mieso has a doctorate in Community College Leadership and a master’s degree in organizational management and development, both from Fielding Graduate University; a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from National University; and a diploma in Agricultural Engineering from Addis Ababa University.
