Multicultural Center

The Multicultural Center at De Anza College is a gathering place for intellectual and cultural enrichment, programs, services, and facilities for students, faculty, staff, and our community. The goal of the Center is to provide an environment that recognizes cultural differences, respects cultural uniqueness, and facilitates cross-cultural interaction, learning and appreciation.

It is home to the Intercultural/International Studies Division, which includes 21 different instructional programs. These programs are remarkably diverse, and represent disciplines such as Latin American Studies, Native American Studies, Chicano/Chicana Studies, Intercultural Studies, Asian Studies, Asian American Studies, African Studies, African American Studies, International Studies, and Women's Studies. Programs also include extensive study of foreign languages, including Arabic, Cantonese, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Urdu and Vietnamese.

The Multicultural Center also hosts activities such as the Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute, the World Languages Week, and the Diversity Leadership Training Project, all of which build strong links between the campus and the community.

At the heart of the Center's programs are more than 100 faculty and staff members who facilitate students' understanding of the evolution of our current international community and examine this from a broad range of perspectives. Our goal is to ensure that every student will emerge from this program ready to serve as global citizens in the twenty-first century.

The Future of the Multicultural Center

While more than 10,000 students and community members use the Multicultural Center every year, the building is in need of a complete renovation and much of the technology within the building is outmoded. The College has recently completed the design for a fully renovated Multicultural Center featuring adaptable classroom space, an outdoor classroom and courtyard, and flexible Activity Room. The Multicultural Center will cost $3.6 million to completely renovate, and with $2.6 million in state and local funding already in place, De Anza College must seek more than $1 million in private support to complete the Center.

Sponsorship

De Anza College invites members of the philanthropic community to join the effort to create a new home for the Multicultural Center. In recognition of programmatic and technological support of the Multicultural Center in the amount of $1 million, the new Center would be named for the donor, or someone the donor wishes to acknowledge.

Sponsorship offers the opportunity to connect with a wide audience while supporting important innovations at Multicultural Center at De Anza College. It forges important connections between the college and the broader community.
