International Facility Management Association
IFMA believes, and CCC research verifies, that 30- 50% of current Facility Management professionals will be retiring within the next decade. The initial phase of the internship (completed in June 2016) had 10 participating students. Students were certified in the Essentials of Facility Management (EOFM) by Silicon Valley IFMA Chapter leadership and were provided opportunities to be placed in paid internships in Bay Area area companies at the conclusion of the course.
The EOFM pilot is a cutting edge, first-of-its-kind program forging the way for similar career pathway programs in the California Community College system statewide and within IFMA globally.
The Essentials of Facility Management (EOFM) classroom training prepares students for more than temporary or dead end jobs. At its conclusion, EM & BS students interview for internships at local companies, some of our students were even hired into full time positions with true career growth. Facility Management covers a number of different career paths. Sustainable employment opportunities exist in the following job categories:
- Facility Management
- Energy Management and Building Operations
- Sustainable Building Materials and Management
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Workplace Design and Space Planning
- Workplace Quality, Comfort, and Safety
- Real Estate and Property Management
- Building Automation and Management Systems
The EM & BS program will offer the IFMA EOFM class at least once each academic year. For more information about IFMA Essentials of Facility Management internships, click on the links below or contact Bill Roeder @ roederwilliam@fhda.edu We will be forming a new class and internship group soon!
