Village Centers Anniversary Celebration Is Tomorrow

We [heart] Our VillagesCelebrate the anniversary of the Village Centers tomorrow – Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be a special event every hour, each hosted by a different center. Activities will include karaoke, networking, cookie decorating and more! You can stop by for snacks and a chance to win a Village T-shirt or the grand prize – a graduation or family photo session. The celebration is co-sponsored by De Anza Student Government (DASG) and Guided Pathways.

DASG Mini Flea Market Is Tomorrow

row of decorative cowboy bootsThe De Anza Student Government (DASG) is holding a Mini Flea Market tomorrow, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Main Quad! You can find jewelry, vintage clothes, handmade goods and more from local vendors. The event is open to all students and employees. Remember, some vendors only accept cash – if you run low on bills, there is an ATM in the Campus Center. More goods can be found at the regular DASG Flea Market which happens the first Saturday of every month from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Black History Month Opening Ceremony Is This Wednesday

BFSA logoCelebrate Black History Month with the Black, Faculty, Staff and Administrators Network's Opening Ceremony this Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Stop by Conference Rooms A & B from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, for light refreshments and a special West African dance performance by Kuumba. Look for new CAN/DID interviews for Black History Month.

Fourth Annual Sandra Diaz Health Professions Roundtable

The fourth annual Sandra Diaz Health Professions Roundtable will take place Wednesday, March 6, from 6-7:30 p.m. in MLC 255 and over Zoom. The Diversity Health Care and Engagement Committee presents the panel in memory of nursing instructor Sandra Diaz to encourage students towards a career in health care. The event features panelists from a variety of nursing careers that will share their academic and professional journeys. Please register in advance.

Register to Vote by Feb. 20

hand filling out voter registration formCalifornia will hold a statewide primary election on March 5, with voting on candidates for president, Congress, the state Legislature and local offices. If you’re registered to vote, you can have your say on important decisions affecting your community. But you must register by Tuesday, Feb. 20, in order to receive a mail-in ballot. (If you miss the deadline, you may still be able to register and cast a conditional ballot in person on March 5.) You can check to see if you’re registered, or go ahead and register online, at registertovote.ca.gov. For more information, visit deanza.edu/vote.

Free Tax-Filing Assistance Every Week

tax forms and calculatorConfused about filing your taxes? You can get free assistance with filling out your tax return from trained volunteers with the VITA program, sponsored by the United Way. Appointments are available every Wednesday from Feb. 7 through April 10, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. To qualify for this service, you must have earned less than $79,000 last year. International students who had income and need to file a 1040-NR are welcome. Sign up on Eventbrite.

You can take tuition-free noncredit courses at De Anza and learn the same material that is offered in for-credit courses. There are no prerequisites and no limits on repeating for noncredit courses. Stay tuned for more videos on specific noncredit programs – like English as a Second language, Automotive Technology, Real Estate and more!

Black History Month It’s Black History Month! You can find this Zoom background and many more Black History Month backgrounds on the college website. You can also find different backgrounds for a variety of heritage months.

De Anza in the News

De Anza’s Humanities Department was featured in a San Jose Mercury News article for winning its first National Endowment for the Humanities grant. The grant will provide $150,000 for the three-year oral history project "Voices." You can read more about the grant on the college website.
