Quick Notes for the Week of April 28
Spring Open House Success
More Than 1000 Attendees
Thank you to everyone who made the first Spring Open House a success – especially Guided Pathways, the Office of Outreach, College Operations, Community Education, the Office of Communications and all volunteers. The event drew students, family members and community residents,
with more than 1,100 submitting RSVPs to attend. You can view a gallery of photos from the event at deanza.edu/open-house.
Student Trustee Election Extended
Vote for Student Trustee by Friday, May 2
Voting for the position of Student Trustee will be extended. Make sure to review the Student Trustee candidate information and cast your vote by this Friday, May 2, at 4 p.m.
Vice President of Instruction Search
Meet the Finalists This Week
President Omar Torres invites you to attend open forums this Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 and 30, in the Fireside Room, for the three finalists for the position of vice president of Instruction. The biographies for each candidate can be found at deanza.edu/president/vpi-finalists.
The schedule is:
- Moaty Fayek – Tuesday, April 29, 2:15-3:15 p.m.
- Ram Subramaniam – Wednesday, April 30, 9:15-10:15 a.m.
- Lydia Hearn – Wednesday, April 30, 2:15-3:15 p.m.
If you are unable to attend, video recordings of all three forums will be available at deanza.edu/president/vpi-finalists, beginning at noon on Thursday, May 1.
You can submit feedback by filling out a paper form at the open forum or submitting an online form on the webpage, to be posted with the recordings. Feedback should be submitted no later than noon on Monday, May 5.

Pho Available Tomorrow, April 29
Pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup, will be served at the pasta station in the Campus Center food court tomorrow – Tuesday, April 29 – from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The food court is open Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
Get Ready for the Spring Career Fair
The Spring Career Fair is next Wednesday, May 7, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Sunken Garden. YYou can connect directly with a diverse range of employers.
You can also prepare for the event by attending a series of workshops in the coming weeks. Please note that students do not have to attend a workshop in order to attend the career fair. Students can also attend as many of the workshops as they would like.
- Networking with Professionals – tomorrow (Tuesday, April 29) from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in L-73 – with guest Doron Noyman from KeyPoint Credit Union.

Jewish American Heritage Month
The Office of Equity and De Anza Student Government invite you to attend their workshop, "Challenging Antisemitism Through a Framework of Collective Liberation," this Wednesday, April 30, from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m., in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month.
Guest speaker Donna Nevel, co-director of community research and education center PARCEO, will cover the history of antisemitism and its current impact. She will also discuss ways to challenge antisemitism.

Celebrate Muslim Heritage Month with the Office of Equity, the Muslim Student Association and De Anza Student Government at several events this month in Conference Rooms A&B!

Spring Resource Fair Is This Thursday, May 1
De Anza Student Government’s Spring Resource Fair is this Thursday, May 1, from noon-3 p.m., in the Main Quad. In the event of rain, the fair will be moved to Conference Rooms A&B.

Queer and Now Conference: Next Thursday, May 8
The 11th annual Queer and Now Conference is next Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., in Conference Rooms A&B. This year’s theme is “Navigating the
Political Climate and Building Queer Community.” Guest speaker Mariah Moore, policy director for the Transgender Law Center, will be giving a keynote speech. There will also be workshops and a fashion show.

Student Spotlight
De Anza Wins First Place in Math Competition
De Anza students won first place in the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges’ Student Mathematics League competition. This is the second year in a row the college has placed first in the competition.
Women’s Track and Field Team Win Championship
The women’s Track and Field team won a postseason Coast Conference championship over the weekend.
Their championship season will resume on May 2 at the NorCal Finals, hosted at Butte College.
Jason Schwartz is Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Student Jason Schwartz, a defensive lineman on the football team, has been selected as National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is given to one male and one
female athlete per year and recognizes students for their outstanding leadership, athletic achievements and academic success.
Schwartz will be honored at the opening day of NATYCAA's annual convention in Orlando, Florida on June 8. He is the first student from the Bay Area to receive this honor.
Before receiving the NATYCAA award, Schwartz was a First Team All-PAC 7, Second Team All-Northern California, two-time Academic All-American and Academic All-State selection and a six-time dean’s scholar. He was also captain of the football team for two years and led the team to an undefeated season – the first in college history since 1979.
Schwartz will graduate this spring and then transfer to California Lutheran University in the fall.
