The Essentials of Facility Management Program (EOFM)
An Innovative Educational and Internship Program Leading the Way for an Entire Industry and Over 20 Community Colleges in California !
Learn how the De Anza Energy Management and Building Science program is providing hands-on experience for our students and helping fill a verified employment gap in Facility Management careers throughout California. 30-50 % of professionals currently in Facility Manager jobs will retire within the next decade. The De Anza EM & BS program is leading the way to fill that void.
The widespread impact of the recent De Anza EOFM pilot program is summed up in a quote from the Statewide Director and Sector Navigator- Energy, Construction and Utilities Sector- California Community Colleges on May 5, 2016:
" Based on the De Anza EOFM pilot program, my Sector Team is submitting a proposal to IFMA for a Facility Management track to be integrated into Business, Environmental Science and Construction Degree programs in as many as 20 Community Colleges in California. Further, IFMA plans to use the De Anza EOFM program and my team's associated proposal to develop similar programs in Community Colleges in other states."
In the video below, meet the first group of De Anza EM & BS students to go through the inaugural EOFM pilot program from April - June 2016. See first-hand what a class is like and what our students learned in the process. We have also posted links and documents at the bottom of the page that provide more information about the EOFM program and Facility Management as a career choice.
At the end of the classroom session in June, our students interviewed for paid internships at local companies- some were even hired into full time jobs.
Employment in Building Energy Efficiency and Facility Management is growing at 6 TIMES THE CALIFORNIA economy. As you saw in the video, someone needs to manage all of the buildings that exist in the world. Facility Management is fast-paced, pays well and there are many opportunities for career advancement.
We are looking for students for our next EOFM class. Due to the success of the pilot program, we have been asked to double the number of participants. If you have interest, please read the information below and contact Bill Roeder, EM & BS Instructor and Program Coordinator via email at roederwilliam@fhda.edu or in person at the Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies in office KC 241B.
