Approval of Agenda & Notes from October 30, 2017 meeting
    • Approval of Agenda
    • Small additions made by Bob Stockwell. Notes approved.

    Needs & Confirmations
    • DASB would like AS assistance for EcoPass $2.75 increase/quarter effective next quarter. Students will vote to approve the increase; if it does not pass then EcoPass will be rescinded. The ask is for faculty to help promote this and encourage students to vote next week on the Eco Pass.

Student Success and Support Program (SSSP)/Basic Skills Initiative (BSI)/ Student Equity (SE) Integrated Planning Proposal
    • Rob & Lorrie started presentation at 3:00 PM

Proposal for additional CTE Faculty voting member on IPBT (1st discussion)

Statewide Academic Senate Fall Plenary Report
    • Vision for Success and
    • Guided Pathways - desire to help facilitate more successful completion of degrees
      • IEPI
      • Chancellor has tasked each college to design their own Guided Pathway. Skyline College had seed money and have created a program. Karen, Lorrie, Rob, and other admin and students are attending a workshop tomorrow in Oakland. Need for student representative. Colleges need to come up with self assessment and an integrated plan. Plan does not need to be an implementation plan, it can be a plan for a plan.

    Committee and Taskforce Reports:
    • College Council - Met 10/26, main focus was a presentation by VP of Finance, reiterating what was presented at opening day. De Anza has been assigned 50% of the district reduction- 5 million over the next ___ years.
      • Question posed regarding the free community college: What impact will this have on our enrollment?
    • Rob and Marissa will be coming to present on the marketing and outreach efforts that have been happening to update senate.
    • Campus Budget- See above
    • Chancellor’s Advisory Committee
    • Enrollment Advisory Team (EAT) -
      • Idea being discussed, an earlier registration period so that it aligns better with semester system schools. De Anza’s schedule came out 2 weeks after Foothill, but De Anza registration starts November 14, two days before Foothill.
      • Sub EAT - block schedule discussion took place with a number of division schedulers. Discussions need to continue to address potential impacts and implications. Slow moving to ensure that we are moving in the right direction. Also, looking at other ideas such as late start classes. Karen encourages all committee members to discuss with their divisions.
    • IPBT
    • Curriculum
    • Starfish
    • Senate subcommittees
    • Professional Relations Committee - Update from Bob Stockwell: they are reviewing tenure review and academic freedom.
    • Community Policing Task Force - Update from Bob Stockwell: The Task Force has been learning history, looking at community models, and reviewing training that officers receive upon hire, including campus training. There could be coursework related to de-escalation of violence and non-bias. The district is always looking to hire police officers, because there is high turnover, as the district doesn’t pay as well as other police forces locally. We have students who are organizing and they are trying to address the scale of the problem (number of students who have had issues with officers). Update from Mary Sullivan: Money that was allotted to Health Services from citations from smoking on campus is no longer being allocated from the district to assist with funding smoking cessation programs.
