    Rusty trained on campus today with 9 players from 11:30 to 1 pm. They talked about transferring and nutrition.  Things are much better

    President holmes also announced in the Senior Staff meeting that in addition to athletics, CTE programs like DMT (Design Manufacturing Technology), and Auto Tech will also have in person classes

    Terrence: The email I just received from Scheduling has said that Fall is going to be mostly online again. Is that true?
    The assumption was that scheduling for 21/22 will be the same as this spring, that it will be mostly online. It was suggested that department chairs should be having conversations with their deans about options faculty and students are interested in.

    Mary D shared that West Valley College has started registration for the fall.

    • She suggested that Senate request for a similar website listing all courses at De Anza;

    ARTICLE III, Section A.  Regular Membership

    Membership in the Academic Senate shall consist of all faculty (full and part-time) at De Anza College. (Reference: Title 5, Subchapter 2, Section 53200). Part time faculty remain active employees of the district until they complete an Appendix S3, or until they haven't had assignments for 3 years, and their Dean approves them to be terminated.

    ARTICLE VII. Section B.2  

    Voting.  The election of a candidate or passage of Senate initiatives will be determined by a simple majority vote of the Academic Senate membership voting. In all elections, all Academic Senate members shall be entitled to one (1) vote.

    Section C. 1 a. Senators needed to start a new term on the Executive Committee shall be elected via an open, transparent and inclusive process, determined by faculty consensus, and announced by the Dean/supervisor/designated representative of each area. elected by each division prior to the end of the Spring Quarter. These elections shall be conducted by the division's present Senators.

    Section C.1b. For any senatorial vacancy on the Executive Committee due to a resignation or a removal of a Senator by vote of the Division, the Division concerned, upon being notified by the President shall elect a faculty replacement. Vacancies for Senator positions must be publicized by the Dean/supervisor/designated representative to the entire division/area. Faculty consensus must determine the open, transparent, and inclusive process used in the division/area to fill vacant Senator position(s).

    Erik added an amendment to approve the By-laws contingent on the Constitution being approved by the full faculty. The Executive Committee will vote later on this, to make sure that there is no mismatch between the Constitution and By-laws. The amended by-laws would not take effect until the Constitution is approved.

    There was no objection to the amendment to the motion.

    Academic Senate Elections timeline & document 

    Review of the Elections timeline and process

    Karen shared the draft of the email that will go out to all faculty to announce the Academic Senate election call for candidates and timeline.

    Faculty members will be voting for the 2 open positions (Academic Senate President and At Large Part-Time Faculty Representative) and the proposed amendment to the Academic Senate Constitution and By-Laws.

    Standing Committee updates

    DASG, logo contest until May 13; Racial Justice town hall, May 13, 4 pm; new senator training continues.

    College Council 4/22 meeting 
    Shared governance task force update; each affiliation group will send 2 members to the task force.

    President Holmes shared that he feels that the college may be better served by a single budget committee, rather than the current, separate planning and budget teams or committees.

    The task force will be investigating the shared governance structure at other colleges and make their recommendation. 

    Laureen, Task Force Chair, mentioned that IEPI, Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative, have a grant program to review and give feedback.

    District Facilities Master Plan, on the May 3 board meeting agenda
    Karen went over the De Anza section of the master plan. Mary Sullivan, Tim Shivley and Eugene Rodriquez serve on the task force. The proposed plan included a  new campus gateway near Flint center, to be called DA Event Center, Student Support Area, Arts Area; PE and Athletics Complex.

    For graduation, there will be no formal in person commencement. Students will have the opportunity to take commemorative photos and purchase a graduation box; financial assistance is available; there will be an online video ceremony; there is no plans to involve faculty.

    Foothill has developed the first of its kind apprenticeship in their dental program.

    New bill on baccalaureate degrees at community colleges, changing from pilot program to full fledged program; the degree is in high demand, especially in CTE, Career Technical Education areas.

    The Multicultural Staff Association has been reactivated. 

    The State Chancellor urges all students, faculty and staff to get vaccinated against COVID. The current position is not to require vaccination; some colleges do require vaccination. There has been and will be discussion on this subject.

    More discussion and poll. 13 were in favor of mandatory vaccination before people are allowed to return to campus. 

    Library lab is opening soon; Cecilia asked about on site testing for athletes returning to campus, will testing be available to students using the computer lab.

    Testing and physicals for athletes were part of the athletes return to training plan. CARES money is paying for the testing. Also, in accordance with CCCAA recommendation and guidelines.

    Encourage the administration to be proactive in making the vaccine available and/or requiring proof of vaccine to be on campus.

    Faculty hiring procedure meeting, working on a new draft of the faculty hiring procedures.

    Opportunity across district on consultation and developing curriculum

    Most of the work is done at department or division level. Foothill and De Anza procedures are different. Discussed plans to engage counterpart departments, from the two colleges in discussions around things such as new courses and programs and degrees and certificates.
